A True Success!

Our first road trip could be nothing less than a real success! Since we landed in the odd city of San Francisco, our outings have been relegated to family-friendly restaurants, playgrounds and easy drives to experience the California outdoors.

On Tuesday we packed up and headed to Monterey, an easy 2-hour drive in the pouring rain and 40-mile winds. Our car-fearing daughter has blossomed into a real roadie, crying only when hungry, bored or too close to bedtime. We've discovered 2 hours is the bar for her patience (and ours!). Stephen was so excited he didn't even open his DVD player or turn on his Leapster. He just asked questions about where we were headed, what he saw on the drive and if he could have his own bed at the hotel.

If you're ever in the Bay area, don't miss the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I've never seen Stephen so wide-eyed and amazed. And yes, he got to see sharks...baby tiger sharks, a baby great white, hammerheads, galapagos sharks, and a few other items. Refaela actually noticed the tank movement and had her hand against the tank wall, cooing over and over at the giant sunfish that bobbed so oddly through the water.

We got to spend some time at the small beach in Carmel, a town so quaint and lovely you want to buy a house there and never leave. The trip made us realize we are just coming round the corner from a very long and tiring experience, finally settling into our surroundings. Not to mention that Refaela has finally turned her corner and can actually enjoy her time out and about. Where to next?
